[Motteley, Charles]

A la Librairie de Panckoucke

[4], 44 pp. With title page vignette, head and tail pieces. (8vo), 22.5x14 cm (9x5½"),  three quarter red morocco and mottled boards, gilt ruling, gilt decorated spine. First Edition.

Scarce catalogue of publications by the Dutch publishing house Elzevir, assembled by  the bibliophile Charles Motteley, who possessed one of the most important collections of small-format Dutch works, many of which came from the Elzevier presses. His collection and his skills had made Motteley the finest connoisseur of the Elzevier and their imitators. Elzevir was a celebrated family of Dutch booksellers, publishers, and printers of the 17th and early 18th centuries. The duodecimo series of "Elzevirs" became very famous and very desirable among bibliophiles, who sought to obtain the tallest and freshest copies of these tiny books. This volume published in France by the celebrated Panckoucke publishing  family. No previous auction records could be located.
