Ebenezer Sibly was an English physician, astrologer and writer on the occult. As a student of medicine, he became interested in the theories on animal magnetism of Anton Mesmer, joining Mesmer's Harmonic Philosophical School, and later also theosophy. Sibly is celebrated for the natal horoscope he cast of the United States, published in 1787 and still cited. First Printed in 1784 as The New and Complete Illustration of the Celestial Science of Astrology in four volumes, the present work went through many editions and various titles. Despite the pagination, the text of this copy is complete and in the proper order, with the exception of p. 1071-2, which is mis-bound, and follows p. 1073-4. Decorative Anderson clan "Stand Sure" bookplate on front pastedowns. A complete copy of this scarce edition.
