Three Years' Travels Throughout the Interior Parts of North America, for More Than Five Thousand Miles...

Carver, Jonathan

Walpole, NH

Isaiah Thomas

280 pp. (8vo) 17.5x10 cm (6¾x3¾"), handsomely rebound in modern textured black cloth, gilt spine, morocco spine label lettered in gilt.

Originally published in London, 1778. "Carver penetrated farther into the West than any other English explorer before the Revolution. Like his French predecessor - Verenrye - he was seeking a transcontinental waterway, but, aside from exploring some tributaries of the Mississippi, he made no substantial contributions to geographical knowledge; his book, however, stimulated curiosity concerning routes to the Pacific, later satisfied by Mackenzie and Lewis and Clark...." See Howes C215 for Carver's "Travels through the Interior Parts of North America."
