Original albumen photograph, 19x12.5 cm (7½x5") on larger printed mount of the U.S. Geological Survey. Overall 35.5x28 cm (16x11").

Though William Henry Jackson is identified as the photographer on the mount, the photograph is attributed to Alexander Gardner. Issued as documentation of the 1871 Expedition to Yellowstone, the photograph was taken by Gardner when Silver Knife and his wife visited Washington, D.C.
