With 2 copies of a 4-page outline of specifications, a 2-page addenda, and a builder's contract. one copy of the specifications is signed by Cranston's parents, Carol D. and William M. Cranston, and the addenda is initialed by all four of the Cranstons.

Alan M. Cranston, recently discharged from the military after serving in World War II, and working as a journalist, was evidently in partnership with his sister, and assisted by his well-off parents, in the construction of a "Concrete Store Building located on Lot 9 & 10, Block 8, Los Altos Calif." A longtime liberal and advocate of world government, Cranston served as senator from California from 1969 to 1993, to be succeeded by Barbara Boxer, who herself served until 2017.
