3 volumes. Illustrated with plates, maps, etc. (4to), original cloth, gilt lettered spines. Includes:

  • The Right Honourable Sir Mortimer Durand: A Biography. With 8 plates, and 3 folding maps in pocket at rear of volumes, one color. London. Cassell & Company, 1926.
  • A History of Exploration From the Earliest Times to the Present Day. With color frontispiece, numerous plates and maps, some folding. London: George  Routledge and Sons, 1934. 
  • The Quest for Cathay. With color frontispiece, 16 plates, and 9 maps, many folding. London, A. & C.Black Ltd 1936.

Brigadier-General Sir Percy Molesworth Sykes was a soldier, diplomat, and scholar with a considerable literary output. He wrote historical, geographical, and biographical works, as well as describing his travels in Persia. These 3 volumes are all profusely illustrated with plates and a number of folding maps.

Lot Amendments
Some wear and soiling to cloth, rubbing to extremities, Sir Mortimer Durand volume with some small dents to board edges; interiors with some toning, occasional light foxing, etc., all maps and plates present; all volumes very good.

We have a full service shipping department to ensure proper packing and safe delivery of purchases at reasonable cost. We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail.  We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
