Fascinating photographic record of a mission by the Lutheran Pastor George Bayard Young to the Middle East, plus related family matter. The heart of the collection is the over 90 original glass lantern slides from a trip to Turkey in 1919, to offer aid following the genocidal actions against Armenians - the slides, many from photographs he took, were compiled for presentations to raise relief funds following his return to the U.S. Besides disturbing images of piles of bones, and poignant pictures of orphans, there are shots of coffee houses in Constantinople, refugees on top of train cars, hospital wards, Turkish soldiers.,melon stands, men at prayer, camels, and other scenes in Turkey and Syria. The photograph albums are mostly the family members.
