De l'education des filles
Fénélon, François de Salignac de La Mothe
chez Ant. Aug. Renouard

18mo. [8], 204 pp., plus two publisher’s lists at end, [4] pp. and 6 pp.  Printer’s woodcut device on title. Contemporary mottled calf, covers with gold-tooled border, smooth spine gold-tooled, green calf gilt lettering piece.

Classic treatise on the education of women, a finely printed edition by the bibliographer and collector Antoine Augustin Renouard. Another issue identifies the printer Pierre Didot on the verso of the half-title, blank in this copy. Copies described in OCLC contain an engraved portrait; this copy was bound without it and may have been so issued. In the first publisher’s list Renouard devotes two and a half pages to a sarcastic refutation of an ignorant grammarian (unidentified) who proposed erroneous corrections to Renouard’s 1802 edition of Bossuet, Oraisons funèbres.
