[2], 22 pp. text + color pictorial map. The map measures 81.8x70.5 cm (32¼x27¾") plus margins, folding and inserted in rear endpaper pocket. Volume measures 18.2x13.3 cm (7¼x5¼"), cloth-backed printed & decorated wrappers, with original printed & decorated paper slipcase. First Edition.

Marvelous, captivating and entertaining pictorial map in semi-cartoon style, showing the old walled city with some surrounding vistas, with such details as the Old Execution Grounds, the Marco Polo Bridge, the Altar of Heaven, Thieves Market, the Imperial City, the Forbidden City, camel caravans, coolies, a funeral procession, a wedding procession etc. There is a series of 25 vignettes at the top and right edges depicting the history of Peiping, from the birth of the original Chou City (which was destroyed many times) to "Today - Cultural Capital of China." 

Lot Amendments

Paper slipcase with some foxing, darkening and wear; small stain to top of front wrapper, other minor wear, last text page darkened from offset of the endpaper pocket; map with a few slight splits at fold intersections, but bright and near fine, the volume and slipcase very good. Rare.

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
