[viii], 383, [13] pp. 42 copperplate engraved plates (many folding) and numerous vignettes in the text. (4to) 25.5x19 cm (10x7¾"), period speckled calf, spine with gilt decorations and lettering. Stated Third Edition. 

Popular work on the theory and practice of gardening, featuring plans for trellises, cascades, fountains, labyrinth etc. Stated third edition, but probably the fifth edition overall. This is the third edition with the contributions of Jean-Baptiste Alexandre Le Blond, including his work on the engraved plates. An important gardening book "in which the methods of the great Le Notre were reduced to a system, remains to this day the standard authority on the formal garden"--Fowler 170 (for the 1709 first edition).

Light wear and scuffing to calf, spine and corners repaired with some loss to gilt; early pencil notes opposite title page, darkening to text block, scattered light foxing; a handsome copy.

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
