Drygalski, Erich von

Georg Reimer

xiv, [2], 668 pp. Photographic frontispiece, 10 maps (1 folding at the end attached to the last page, 1 double-page, 5 full page, 3 in text), 12 plates (5 folding, 4 double-page, 3 full page) with the map following p. 668, 382 mostly photographic illustrations in text, between 360 and 361 there are 2 magnetic diagrams. With their ship frozen in ice for almost a year in 1901-1903 the first German expedition of its kind had little opportunity to explore the coastline of Wilhelm II in the ship "Der Gauss". Instead Drygalski and his crew amassed a tremendous amount of scientific data, which was published over a period of twenty-six years. The English version was not published until 85 years later.  Scarce with all maps intact.

Lot Amendments

Light wear and scuffing to boards, some soiling to spine with an area of discoloration where a label was likely removed; interior solid with occasional light soiling; very good.
