Golf chapters include club histories, golf history in general, instructional, etc., plus photographs and other illustrations, an 1879 plan of St. Andrews Golfing Course, an 1888 plan of St. George's Golf Club golf course, and "A Hoylake Putting-Green" image from a painting, etc. Caspar Whitney (1862-1929) was a gentleman-sportsman who knew everybody and tried everything. Less physically adventurous than his usual writing, this book is a survey of amateur sport in England, intended to emphasize the moral and social value of such activities.
