The first Jazz magazines appeared – on both sides of the Atlantic - in the 1930s. Many published before and during World War II were short-lived. One of the more enduring was the pioneering French "Jazz Hot", launched in 1935. The issues offered here have front page photos of Louis Armstrong, Andre Ekyan, Jack Teagarden and Philippe Brun. The Forest Hills, New York periodical began in 1942 and closed the following year, producing only ten issues.  These three of the last four published, have front-page photos of George Wettling, Bill Davison, and Johnny Dodds. The less flashy Jazz Quarterly, begun in Kingsville, Texas, survived for four years. This issue has some photos, modernistic line drawings, and a feature article on the Harlem Hamfats
