4 volumes. Illustrated with 30 photogravure plates, 120 duotone plates, plus numerous illustrations in the text from photographs by Donald R. Dickey, Wright M. Pierce, Wm. L. Finley & the author; plus 44 drawings in the text & 110 color plates from paintings by Major Allan Brooks & others. (Folio), bound in red morocco, gilt lettered spines, marbled endpapers. One of 200 sets of the Format De Luxe.

Signed by Dawson on a designated page at the front of volume 1. One of 200 sets of the De Luxe Edition sold through the Cooper Ornithological Club. Laid in is the original prospectus for these copies, as well as a handwritten receipt and letter of thanks, signed by W. Lee Chambers, Business Manager of the Cooper Ornithological Club, dated 1939. One of the most desirable editions of this standard and beautiful work. Nissen 225; Ayer, Ornithological Library, p. 162.

The included prospectus states: "These sets are sewed and glued, but have no covers, and are perfect with all the plates in each of the volumes, and are in the original printer's wrappings[...] the only difference from the regular De Luxe edition is that in this lot the extra red ink printing of 'Birds of California' and the 'edition' lines are omitted."

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
