Original ink and watercolor drawing on heavy card. 16.2x12.5 cm (6¼x5").
Beautiful drawing of a joyful Winnie-the-Pooh and Piglet by the original illustrator of A.A. Milne's timeless series of stories of Christopher Robin and friends. The illustrator addresses his agent: "My dear Carter Brown, Many Thanks for your letter. I think you have done splendidly. This view is shared by others (as you see) coloured. Yours very sincerely, Ernest H. Shepard. Feb. 29th / 32." The artist's address is embossed at the head of the card. Shepard was chosen by Milne to illustrate the the 1924 debut of the lovable bear in collection of poems "When We Were Very Young" and provided the pictures for all of the subsequent Pooh stories by Milne. Unpublished images of Pooh such as the present are very rare, as Shepard rarely drew his most famous characters outside of his work for Milne.
