8vo, black full cloth with embossed silver titles and signature on front and spine, t.e.s., original dust jackets. First Editions.

Volume One: Boldly signed by Truman “To Bob Fiedler/ with kind regards/ from/ 11/9/60 Harry Truman” on half title page. Inscription on ffep “For Bob-/ This man/ will live long/ after his time./ Hope you enjoy/ his story/ Dad.” Dampstaining on paste-down with mild staining on front dust jacket cover. Volume Two: Dampstaining on paste-down with fading on title pages. ¼ inch tear on dust jacket rear and spine.

Robert Fiedler, to whom this book is inscribed, was a journalist whose mid-career passion for the sciences led him to become the Director of the Institute News Bureau at Caltech in 1951. His Science and Engineering Magazine articles, “Fertility and Floods” and “Bridges in Space,” can be found in the Caltech digital archive.

We have a full service shipping department to ensure proper packing and safe delivery of purchases at reasonable cost. We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
