An Almanack, for the Year of Our Lord and Saviour Christ, 1779. Being the Third after Bissextile, or Leap Year, and the Third of American Independence

George, Daniel

Printed and sold by John Mycall, and Draper & Folsom of Boston

[24] pp. (12mo) 17.3x10.4 cm (6¾x4”), bound with string.

A Revolutionary-era Massachusetts almanac compiled by Daniel George, a former student of astronomy at Haverhill who issued New England almanacs in various Massachusetts towns between 1776 and 1787.  In addition to the calendar for the year, the almanac includes "a variety of matter, useful and entertaining" such as "the grand pilgrimage to Mecca," a fable on "the danger of exorbitant taxes," and receipts for the jaundice and the dropsy.

The present almanac is one of two states identified by Drake, here with the printer's name as "John Mycall" rather than "J. Mycall."  An almanac identical in content was also published in Boston by Draper & Folsom.

Lot Amendments
