Two scrapbooks of illustrated plates from the 17th through the 19th centuries






2 volumes. With a total of approx. 96 leaves of mounted illustrated plates of various sizes, most b&w, a few color, Each volume (4to), leather and boards.

Two 19th century scrapbooks filled with a variety of illustrated plates, stamps, envelopes, etc. Includes bookplates, illustrated printer's devices and initials, title page engravings, illustrated envelopes, miscellaneous illustrations, etc. The majority appear to be from the 18th and 19th centuries, with a few earlier samples as well. One volume is titled in ink on a plate affixed to a page at the front: "A Book of Scraps, Oddly Collected." Both volumes bear the bookplate, dated 1880,  of  the Hon Gerald Henry Brabazon Ponsonby, son of the fourth Earl of Bessborough and “the possessor of a magnificent collection of ex libris” (Hamilton, p 168) A74-20.

Lot Amendments

One volume with wear and rubbing to binding, the second volume is in two pieces, with top board detached and most of spine strip gone, a number of loose leaves; the plates themselves are in very good condition, with toning and occasional light foxing.

We have a full service shipping department to ensure proper packing and safe delivery of purchases at reasonable cost. We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
