A novel,  a fictionalized memoir, by the “father of Korean-American literature”, and a rare periodical appearance of an essay by Kang and his wife, some 20 years later, reprinted from a college journal in an  American-sponsored Tokyo publication

 

Born and educated in Korea, at 23, Kang fled his country as a political refugee, coming to the US via Canada, married an American woman, received a graduate degree from Harvard and wrote his first book at 33. He later worked as an art curator at the Metropolitan Museum in New York and as an Asian expert for the US Government.

  • Grass Roof. (NY, 1934) Later printing  of  the 1931 First Edition. Original cloth in Dust Jacket with decoration by Cyrus Baldridge. Signature of Kang pasted and taped to front flyleaf. Kang’s first book.
  • East Goes West, The Making of an Oriental Yankee (NY, 1937) First Edition, though Dust Jacket reads “Seventh Large Printing”. Original cloth in chipped Dust Jacket . Inscribed by Kang on flyleaf: “Frank [?] With deep regards and pleasant memories of other days. Very sincerely, Younghill Kang. May 27, 1938”

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
