2 volumes (of 3?, or 3 volumes in 2?). Text in Japanese, with table of contents at end in Chinese and English. Illustrated with line woodcuts. (8vo) 23.4x16.5 cm (9¼x6½"), yellow wrappers sewn in Japanese style.

Important text on western surgery for Chinese, by the Protestant medical missionary Benjamin Hobson (1816-1873), who served for nearly twenty years with the London Missionary Society in imperial China during its Qing dynasty. OCLC/WorldCat lists only two copies, at the University of Chicago and SOAS University of London, with the latter listing noting that the first 500 copies having the table of contents in English and Chinese.
