Lithograph with 4 images on 1st page of 4-page letter sheet, on blue paper. With 3 page handwritten letter. 20.7x26.7 cm.  (8¼x10¼").

Captivating letter sheet revealing the tedium and occasional excitement of life in the gold country. With three page letter datelined Mormon Island, California, Sunday Evening, April 10th 1853, discussing local news, Methenis Creek (El Dorado County). Letter signed by Jerome Dutton.


The illustrations are: A Sundays Amusements (one man standing to hang up wet pants and shirt, another seated, soaking his feet in a stream); A Daily Pleasure (apparently the same two men cooking, in a tent, one seated on bench stirring a bowl, dog and coffee pot, foreground); Occupation on Rainy Days (two men now working at mending boots in a large tent with log fireplace at back); A Pleasant Surprise (the two men discover a bear warming himself at their hearth in the canvas tent). We have a full service shipping department to ensure proper packing and safe delivery of purchases at reasonable cost. We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
