2 volumes. Three wood-engraved plates in each volume, title page vignettes. (8vo) original brown cloth stamped and lettered in gilt, gilded edges.  First Edition, First Printing.

In addition to being one of the most influential books ever written, Uncle Tom's Cabin was also one of the most popular; as Sabin notes, "During [1852] there were numerous reissues from the plates of the first edition, also in two volumes, with the addition of the words 'Tenth' to 'One Hundred and Twentieth Thousand." BAL 19343, binding C, sequence not established. 


Lot Amendments

Condition:
Elegantly re-cased with original spine cloth laid down for both volumes, slightly leaning spines, light rubbing and some soiling to cloth as typical, spotting on cover of Volume I affecting stamped vignette and border, 1" scrape through top gilt border of Volume II; hinges repaired with skill, pages exhibit occasional foxing and toning; front free endpaper of Volume II repaired, chipping to lower corner on some pages of Volume II affecting text on two leaves; very good.

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
