Inscribed and signed by Van Vogt in pen on the first page, with occasional pencil corrections and edits in his hand throughout. This is the original typescript for Van Vogt's story, "Final Command," originally published in Astounding Science Fiction Magazine, November, 1949. The story concerns an underground movement of robots plotting the destruction of humanity. Inscription by the author on the first page reads: "This is the original copy of this story, which will appear in the special November issue of Astounding Science Fiction. Westerton, Oct. 2/1949 - A.E. Van Vogt."

Alfred Elton van Vogt was a Canadian-born science fiction author. He is regarded as one of the most popular, influential and complex practitioners of the mid-twentieth century, the genre's so-called Golden Age.
