Description:

Four volumes from an original series of eleven. Present are the third through fifth and the eleventh volumes of this illustrated catalogue from the British Museum. These works are profusely illustrated with engraved plates depicting the marbles. The plate breakdown is as follows: III: 17 plates (including two double-page plates) IV: 28 plates V: 15 plates XI: 52 plates. (4to) 30.5x24.7 cm (12x9¾"), volumes are bound in paper-covered boards, with title labels on the spines and front covers. 

Originally published as an eleven-volume set, serially between 1812 and 1861, and depicting classical marbles in the collection of The British Museum. Vol. III, 1818; Vol. IV, 1820; Vol. V, 1826; Vol. XI, 1861. 


Lot Amendments

Condition:
There is light to moderate rubbing and toning concentrated at the extremities. The bindings are solid. The pages show mild to moderate age toning and occasional foxing/spotting, mostly marginal; Vol. III with evident chipping/losses along the spine. Vol. XI with moderately bumped corners, note that there is a crack between signatures in Vols. III and XI, Light to moderate offsetting to the pastedowns and opposite front endpapers.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
