Title:
Sarah Peterson Demmings Music Book, Her Work

Author:
Demmings, Sarah Peterson

Place:
[n.p.]

Publisher:

Date:
[c.1820's]

Description:

Approximately [128] pp. Musical score in manuscript. (4to) 33x23 cm (13x9"), original boards backed with new leather spine by Cory Reisbord.

The manuscript volume reveals the extensive repertoire of a young woman’s interest in parlor music, and also her ability to transcribe a variety of tunes. The volume offers no place or date, but is certainly American and circa 1820s. For example. “Orange Regiments March” and “The Minute Gun at Sea” were both published in 1823. Partial Index of 32 titles penned on free front end-paper, presumably by Ms. Demmings, although the volume has more pieces—in fact a total of 59 pieces. A unique piece of Americana.
