The Balfours were a well-known golfing family, the most skillful of whom was James' son, Leslie Balfour-Melville, who won the British Amateur in 1895. The book relates tales of the Old Course during a time when there were relatively few golfers and is of great interest because it gives one of the few first-hand accounts of how the course was played in those early days. "One of the rarest of all golf items" - Murdoch 30; D&M 600; D&J B2890. Provenance: From the collection of Theodore Prussing LeVino.
