Clapcott, C.B.

No place

Date:
April 1938

[1], 58 leaves, typed on rectos only. Five pages of "Corrections and Additions" laid in. Several ink notes referencing corrections within. 33x20.5 cm (13x8") original stiff card wrappers with green cloth spine. Custom clamshell box.

The mimeograph "Corrections and Additions" reproduces Clapcott's own made in Nov. 1938. Alastair Johnston, in his 1985 compilation of Clapcott's papers described the work: "In this essay Clapcott studies the first 10-year recorded history of The Honourable Club of Edinburgh Golfers using the minute book of 'The Gentleman Golfers' of 1744 and the Acts of Council of the Town of Edinburgh of the same year as his starting point... This paper also introduces our first intriguing glimpse at Clapcott's interpretation of The Goff as he relates the characters portrayed in this poem to the identifiable early members of 'The Gentleman Golfers' pursuing their recreation on Leith Links."  Exceeding rare, as are all of Clapcott's writings, which until 1985, were known in only these rare self-produced typescripts. With the bookplate of Joseph Murdoch.
