A very rare book, only twice before offered at PBA Galleries. First at the Murdoch sale in 1998, however, that copy did not have the original wrappers present, a second copy, rebound with the wrappers preserved, was offered in 2011. The present copy is superior to either of the previous. Also present is a typed slip on Montrose Standard letterhead with the editor's compliments. "These papers originally appeared in the Montrose Standard and met with such general acceptance that the author has been induced to partly re-write and to republish them in a collected form, believing that the great and increasing interest in the classic game of golf will make them acceptable to a much wider circles of readers... The characters are drawn from life, and the incidents described in most of the matches are real and not imaginary." -Preface. With chapters on: The formation of the Club, the members, the first meeting, the first match, the lunch, the second round, the evening after, etc. D&J and D&M state that the book is bound in leather.
