An exceptional copy of Crane's most enduring work, in the extremely scarce dust jacket, which is likely from a second printing. A highspot of American literature dealing with the American Civil War. First issue on laid paper, top edges yellow, type not broken on last line of p. 225, first page of ads titled "Gilbert Parker's Best Books". BAL 4071; Stallman 2.

Lot Amendments

The fragile dust jacket, now in mylar, has slight loss at the spine ends, corner chips and splits at the folds, sunning to spine, light soiling, and small edge dampstains on the rear; all corners neatly clipped; red and black imprint with slight wear on spine title; boards with light soiling and very light edgewear; text block edges and endpapers have light soiling, as do a few pages, including title page; uneven signatures with some associated toning on a few page fore-edges; very good volume in like dust jacket.

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
