The paper backing of the frame (detached but present) is inscribed by Lofting: "To Margaret LeVino with best wishes from Hugh Lofting, July 28 1930." Margaret LeVino was the wife of screenwriter Albert LeVino, a friend of Lofting's. Known as "Peg," she was also an actress and screenwriter, and the grandmother of the current owner and consignor of the artwork. Also included is a first American edition of the book, inscribed by Lofting along with a drawing of a dog on the front flyleaf: "For Theodore LeVino with best wishes from, Hugh Lofting - June 1930." Wonderful original artwork by Lofting, along with a rare inscribed copy of one of his first editions.
The artwork is for a color full-page plate in the volume captioned "The roundness of this world was much more easily felt."
