6 volumes. (12mo) 14.5x9 cm (6x3½"), period gilt decorated calf, gilt spines with red morocco spine labels lettered in gilt; marbled endpapers; speckled edges.

6 volumes collecting issues 1-46 (all published?) of Moreau's influential periodical The Dutch Observer, spanning the years 1755-1759. Scarce.

Jacob-Nicolas Moreau was a French historian, historiographer of France, and great defender of the Ancien Regime. As a historian, he wrote a large number of memoirs and essays and created a "deposit of charters" to collect the official texts of national history. His doctrine influenced the kings of the Restoration. 


Lot Amendments

Condition:
Wear and rubbing to bindings with some loss to calf and gilt, a number of the volumes with wormhole damage to bindings; vol. 6 with approx. 40 leaves with wormholing damage resulting in some loss to text; interiors otherwise sound; overall very good.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
