Four different editions of Baum's tale about a living gingerbread man and his adventures.

Includes:

• First Edition, first Printing. Pictorial tan cloth stamped in red, olive & black; color pictorial endpapers. With the rare detachable contest blank for "the Great John Dough Mystery" on yellow paper facing p.8 present. First state, with misprint on p.275, line 10 ("cage" for "cave"); publisher's imprint on spine reads to "The Reilly &/ Britton Co." in small caps; the back cover has a picture of John Dough, Chick the Cherub, and a box on which is lettered "THE GREAT/ JOHN DOUGH/ MYSTERY. Fair amount of wear and soiling to cloth, rubbing to spine, with some slitting to cloth at spine heel; binding shaken with hinges cracked, front free endpaper lacking, foxing and some general wear to interior; about good only.  [1906].
• Second printing. Pictorial tan cloth stamped in red, olive & black; color pictorial endpapers. No contest blank, "cage" changed to "cave." Binding B. Some light wear, soiling to cloth; very good. [1906].
• First Reilly & Lee printing. Brown cloth, pictorial cover label, b&w illustrated endpapers. Hinges cracked. [c.1920].
• Later printing. Blue cloth, pictorial cover label, b&w illustrated endpapers.Only 1 color insert facing title page. [c.1927].
