Honors Gaius Maecenas, advisor to Octavian and patron of Virgil, Horace and others. Sterling silver and marbled lacquer barrel and cap, cap engraved with a line from an ode by Horace, endpiece set with a replica Roman coin. Medium 18K gold nib engraved with laurel wreath motif. Outer sleeve, outer box, lacquered wood display box, hardcover booklet. Limited Edition: 3417/4810. Excellent condition, not inked.

Note: This is the original version, with an error in the engraved verse by Horace; most of the pens were recalled and the caps replaced, but a small number were circulated with the incorrect verse intact, of which this is one. 

Some patina and light handling marks to endpiece. Light wear and soiling to outer sleeve. Stickers from past auction to inner box flap.

We have a full service shipping department to ensure proper packing and safe delivery of purchases at reasonable cost. We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. For international shipments are preferred carrier is FedEx..For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
