3 volumes. 8vo, contemporary half calf (skillfully rebacked with new kangaroo spines), marbled sides, maroon morocco labels, gilt lettering. Bound without the half-titles and publisher’s ads, except for the leaf advertising Collins’ biography of his father, which is present in volume 2.  First Edition.

Wilkie Collins’ first novel and second book, a story about the conquest of Rome by Alaric, using Gibbon’s account as it source, and Bulwer-Lytton, Scott and Cooper as his models. Antonina was well received and Collins was praised as a worthy successor to Scott and Bulwer-Lytton, but he never again returned to historical fiction.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
