Important early American work on navigating the vital waterways that opened up the interior of the young United States to settlement and trade. 

The title continues: ...and a concise description of their towns, villages, harbors, settlements, &c. ; with maps of the Ohio and Mississippi ; to which is added an appendix, containing an account of Louisiana, and of the Missouri and Columbia rivers, as discovered by the voyage under Capts. Lewis and Clark.Ownership inscription on rear endpaper of Chetal(?) Clark noting he bought the book in Pittstburgh on September 28, 1818. Additional early signature of Obed Edson to title page and front pastedown. Later nine-line inscription to front pastedown regarding the book and its provenance. Ink number 720 and pencil inscription noting 1952 gift to gutter of page [iii]. 

Lot Amendments

Some rubbing and wear to covers, but sound; lacking front free endpaper, title page lightly stained, minor darkening/soiling within; very good.

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
