Description:

Single sheet bond. Illustrated with images of the proposed prison, riders on horseback, George Washington, and other vignettes. With 18 of the original 20 coupons still attached, each signed by Treasurer Richard Roman and marked "paid." 43.5x36 cm (17x14½"). 

The bond, #7, dated October 1 1853, is in the amount of $500 and is signed by California Governor John Bigler, Controller William S. Pierce, and Treasurer Richard Roman. The Prison to be built was San Quentin.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
