Airplane Map of Yosemite National Park

Yosemite National Park, CA

Yosemite Transportation Systems

Single sheet, folding, with aerial view of Yosemite on one side, title and 3 panels of text on the other. Overall 23.2x40.5 cm (9x16"), folding to 23.2x10.2 cm (9x4").

Rare Yosemite promotional brochure with text descriptive of the scenic wonders and the available activities, and a marvelous bird's-eye view/map of the valley and surrounding area looking south to Mono Lake, drawn by William H. Bull. The O'Shaughnessy Dam is shown, but the water seems not to have formed into a lake. The dam was completed in early 1923, and the reservoir was filled for the first time in late May of that year. One copy is listed in OCLC/WorldCat, at the University of California Berkeley.

William Howard Bulll (1861-1940). Painter, illustrator. Bull moved to northern California in 1882. During 1893 he spent seven weeks in the Kings River Canyon. After 1901 he was a resident of San Mateo, CA. With Piazzoni, Martinez, C. P. Neilson, Blendon R. Campbell, and Matteo Sandona, in 1902 he co-founded the California Society of Artists as a reaction to conservative attitudes which restricted younger artists. After 1915 he illustrated for Sunset magazine as well as for the Southern Pacific Railroad and Stanford University. He retired in 1935. Although rare, his works include landscapes of the Valley of the Moon, Yosemite, and other scenic spots in northern California.
