Rare work of alleged fiction about Richard Crockford and the successful gaming house he created in the early 19th century. The author states in his preface that the book is fiction, but the stories are almost certainly real, as he hopes to "unfold a system of plunder and robbery which is aiming a deadly blow at the fortunes of the great . . ." The book was very popular in England, going through at least three editions in its year of publication.

Lot Amendments

Soiling and rubbing to boards, rubbing to extremities, corners worn, slight chipping to spine ends; staining and some tears to endpapers, interiors with toning and scattered foxing; both volumes good.
