One of the greatest 18th-century editions of Homer. The Foulis edition of Homer has been frequently cited as one of the most accurate and typographically splendid editions of Homer's Iliad and Odyssey in the original Greek, printed on thick paper. The type was newly invented by Alexander Wilson and is called “double pica”, a bold, virile fount that has made the Homer called the masterpiece of the firm. Each volume has a separate title page and the general title page for both volumes, missing here, is seldom found. The half titles are present for each of the four volumes. Gaskell, Foulis 319; Scholderer, Greek Printing Types, 12.
