2 volumes. Each with portrait frontispieces, 50 illustrated plates. (4to), original red cloth decorated in gilt, top edges gilt. First Editions. Includes:

  • A Book of Fifty Drawings. [6], 212 pp. With an iconography by Aymer Vallance. Light wear and soiling to cloth with light rubbing to extremities, some creasing to cloth on front board; heavy foxing to endpapers, foxing to initial pages, affecting first plate. One of 500 copies. 1897.
  • A Second Book of Fifty Drawings. 209 + [2] ad pp. A bit of bubbling to cloth, rubbing to extremities; foxing to endpapers, light spotting to edges. One of 1,000 copies on art paper from a total edition of 1050 copies. 1899. 

Both volumes from the library of London publisher Martin Secker, with his decorative bookplate on the front pastedowns. These two volumes collect together various book and other illustrations by Beardsley, including those from Le Morte Darthur, Salome, The Yellow Book and other works. A handsomely presented showcase of the iconic artist's work.

Martin Secker was a London publisher who was responsible for producing the work of a distinguished group of literary authors, including D. H. Lawrence, Thomas Mann, Norman Douglas, Henry James, Compton Mackenzie, and George Orwell.

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
