With hand-colored maps (many are double-page) including insets; 2 hand-colored plates showing world time differences, flags of the world (double-page), 5 charts showing the heights of mountains and lengths of rivers of the world (on two pages), 6 physical maps (on 2 pages), 6 hand-colored globe illustrations, and the East and West Hemispheres (full-page); plus an engraved frontispiece from a photograph of the U.S. Capitol building. Text by Richard Swainson Fisher, M.D. (Folio) 46x34 cm (18x14½"), original half morocco and brown cloth decoratively blind-stamped, stamped and lettered in gilt, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt.

The complete and comprehensive Johnson’s atlas of the United States and the world. Thirty-five maps of the Americas, 27 pertain to the United States (many are the double-page maps) including Vicinity of Richmond and Peninsular Campaign in Virginia. This copy lists a vignette title page in the contents which is not present, but contains the U.S. Capitol frontispiece which is not listed in the contents.

Lot Amendments

Rubbing and soiling to boards, joints starting, loss to spine ends; hinges cracked, clear tape repairs to some initial leaves which are starting to detach, contents sheet detached and laid in, foxing to initial leaves, scattered chips and small closed tears to page edges; overall good with very good map sheets.

We have a full service shipping department to ensure proper packing and safe delivery of purchases at reasonable cost. We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
