Important first-hand account of the conquest of Mexico written by a companion of Cortés, first published in Spanish in 1632, but not appearing in English until the present edition. Diaz del Castillo began the work in 1568, in response to Gomara's 1552 account of the conquest, which he felt gave to much credit to Cortes. Palau 72373; Sabin 19984.

Good amount of wear and staining to boards, rubbing to extremities, spine strip lacking with boards still loosely attached; first blanks attached and laid in, foxing to frontispiece, interior otherwise sound; good.
