With 109 (of 111) map sheets as listed on the contents page, many are double-page. East and West Hemispheres, plus insets; 2 hand-colored plates, including: world time differences, flags of the world (double-page), 5 charts showing the heights of mountains and lengths of rivers of the world (double-page); 12 physical maps (on 4 pages); steel-engraved frontispiece of the U.S. Capitol building; plus several wood engravings within the text and 2 full-page Coats of Arms leaves. (Folio) 18x14½, original quarter brown morocco and cloth, decoratively blind-stamped, stamped and lettered in gilt, marbled endpapers.

The final map sheet (Ancient Greece and Rome) is lacking. The comprehensive Johnson’s atlas of the United States and the world, mostly focusing on the Americas. Double-page maps include: United States and several individual U.S. states; the World; North America; portions of Canada; New York City and Brooklyn; Richmond and Peninsular Campaign; Texas; California and the Southwest; West Indies; South America; European countries; Russia; Asia; India and Southeast Asia; Africa; Australia and East Indies; Roman Empire, etc.

General wear and staining to boards, top joint cracked; interior with some dampstaining and occasional wormholing to edges, some closed tears not affecting map images, some tape repairs; good.

We have a full service shipping department to ensure proper packing and safe delivery of purchases at reasonable cost. We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
