5 volumes bound in 2. [8], 96; 1150; 656; [4], 552; [8], 688; [44], 208 numbered columns. With engraved portrait frontispiece, title pages with large woodcut devices, head and tail pieces, initials throughout. (Folio) 38.5x24 cm (15x9½"), period calf, gilt decorated spines, speckled edges.

With the illustrated bookplates of Societatis Verbi Divini, with their inkstamps on title pages, library pockets and cards on rear pastedowns. St. Ambrose, Bishop of Milan from 374 to 397, became one of the most influential ecclesiastical figures of the 4th century. He was one of the four original Doctors of the Church and served as a mentor to St. Augustine. He is patron saint of Milan.

Good amount of wear and chipping to leather, edges and corners worn, 2nd volume with loss to head of spine and corners, joints cracked; first volume with wormholing to endpapers, pages and front and rear, and some margins, not affecting text, interiors otherwise clean; good.

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
