[8], 290, cxxix pp. With engraved portrait frontispiece and extra engraved title page, additional engraved plates throughout from the designs of Richard Westal. (4to) 26.5x20 cm (10½x8"), polished calf with maroon straight grain morocco panels gilt borders and dentelles, gilt decorated spine, red endpapers, all edges gilt.

With scenic fore-edge painting of Kelso, where Scott spent much of his youth. This copy contains two title pages, the engraved first contains an illustrated lake scene, is dated 1811 and noted as "illustrated with engravings" and published by John Sharper, Picadilly (London). Likely the  third edition published in 1811, presumably as a re-issue of the 1810 publication.

Lot Amendments

Light rubbing to extremities; front hinge cracked, first gathering somewhat loose but holding, offsetting to illustrated title page, faint foxing to plates; overall very good.

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
