Etched plate glass sign. One-quarter inch thick, 21¼" in diameter. 

Original glass signage for Doelger Homes, the company founded and owned by Henry Doelger (1896-1978). Doelger was known for the creation of large low-cost housing tracts in San Francisco and Daly City. The area between 27th and 39th Avenues and Kirkham and Quintara Streets has earned the nickname "Doelger City," as Henry Doelger Builder Inc. constructed thousands of single-family houses atop the sand dunes from the late 1920's into the 1940's. Provenance: from the personal collection of architectural artifacts belonging to Marin County residential designer, Paden Prichard.  

The sign was evidently used at the landmark Art-Deco Doelger Building at 320-326 Judah Street in San Francisco. A matching sign is now set into the fomer loading dock door at the buildikng, but the extensive documentation of the building's designation as a historic landmark notes that "this etched window was likely orignally located in a different location within the building." The duplicate sign being offered here was evidently surplus when the changes were made.
