99, [1] pp. With 40 tipped-in color plates and numerous line drawings in text. 29x22 cm (11½x9") full gilt-stamped vellum, top edge gilt. No. 215 of 250 copies. 

Signed by Hankey at the limitation. Detached and laid in is the illustrated bookplate for Samuel Kahn, with woodcut of a woman by Eric Gill. A small additional bookplate reading "Effemar" is still attached. Beautifully presented and illustrated edition of Goldsmith's  1770 poem; a work of social commentary, condemning rural depopulation and the pursuit of excessive wealth.

Lot Amendments

Good amount of rubbing and soiling to vellum, cover ribbons lacking; glue residue on front pastedown from bookplate; very good.

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
