3 octavo volumes. First Editions .Includes:

  • Impressions of Ukiyo-Ye: The School of the Japanese Colour-Print Artists. (2 copies). Illustrated from plates. Bound in coarsely woven cloth with brown embossed design and lettering on front cover, Japanese braided cord binding, color papered pastedowns. [1905].
  • The Heritage of Hiroshige: A Glimpse at Japanese Landscape Art. Illustrated with prints from the Harper Collection. Traditional decorated cloth spine with original ties, grey paperboards. [1912.]

This copy of Heritage of Hiroshige is from the Avery Brundage collection, with the stamp on the fore-edge and title page.  One copy of Impressions of Ukiyo-Ye is from the Estelle Doheny collection, with her gilt-decorated bookplate. Also bearing the bookplate of fine printer John Henry Nash.

In 1959, Chicago industrialist Avery Brundage agreed to donate the first part of his vast collection of Asian art to San Francisco on the condition that the city build a new museum to house it. Completed in 1966, the new facility opened on June 11, 1966, in a space constructed as a wing of the M. H. de Young Memorial Museum in Golden Gate Park.

We have a full service shipping department to ensure proper packing and safe delivery of purchases at reasonable cost. We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
