Manuscript letter with orders, signed by J.G. Marow(?). 1 page on 4-page blue paper lettersheet, docketed and forwarded on page 4. 25.4x20 cm (10x8").

Midshipman Francis Gregory is ordered to report to the U.S. Frigate Raritan, and John D. Sloat, famous for preemptively attacking and occupying Monterey, California, in 1846 but in 1849 commanding the Norfolk Navy Yard, boldly signs the document on the fourth page as it is forwarded.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
