[16], 101 pp. Biographical Sketch by Belle W. Lobenstine. 3 plates including frontispiece portrait. 22.5x15 cm. (9x6"), cloth-backed boards, paper cover label.

Inscribed and signed by Belle Lobenstine on the front free endpaper. Significant first-hand account of the California Gold Rush by a participant. "Belle Lobenstine found her father's manuscript diaries after his death and worked them over into a handsome private publication. Lobenstine, an immigrant from Germany, began his trek to California on April 20, 1852, from Pittsburgh. Traveling overland via the Platte River Route and Fort Bridger, Lobenstine arrived at Volcano, Amador County, on August 28. The next day, he started looking for gold, but met with little success. Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
